Windows 7 Activation Bug
« on: February 15, 2011, 09:15:23 AM »
Sometimes Windows 7 will boot and then randomly say that the operating system needs to be activated even if it was activated just a couple of days before.  There is a Windows Update that we can uninstall that usually fixes this situation.  The update you need to uninstall is KB971033.  After you uninstall the update, it usually takes a couple of reboot or days for Windows to reactivate itself.  In one particular instance for me it only took one reboot.

Note:  this will only work if your computer was activated and then all of a sudden isn't.

To do this:
1.  Click on Start > Control Panel
2.  If you have Category view enabled click on Uninstall a program, otherwise click on Programs and Features
3.  In the next window there should be View installed updates on the left panel.  Click on that.
4.  The easiest way to find this update is to search for KB971033 in the Search Bar.
5.  Once your view is filtered, double click on update KB971033 to uninstall it.
6.  Reboot your machine and continue using it as usual.
